BEETHOVEN'S STRING QUARTETS
THE FIRST SIX STRING QUARTETS, OP. 18

Beethoven around 1800

The conclusion of our discussion of the development of this compositional genre, with Haydn's works, led us to the last decade of the 18th century, in which we, after his conclusion of his studies with Albrechtsberger, encounter Beethoven as a young composer in Vienna.

In embarking on our exploration of  his relationship to this genre, we might, perhaps, ask ourselves two questions, namely whether, on the one hand, it was prepared for him and if, on the other hand, he was prepared for it.

Let us, therefore, on our first page to this section, try to find direct answers to these questions or to perhaps even raise new questions!
