With respect to the report on the NBC broadcast of the performance of the Missa solemnis on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th Pontificate of Pope Paul VI. in the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome in the year 1971 we should not fail to mention that, in his book The Interior Beethoven Irving Kolodin mentioned this performance, while this writer also enquired with the Bayerische Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting Company) and had the following confirmed:  

" . . . in unseren Unterlagen steht: 

"Zum 50jährigen Priesterjubliäum von Papst Paul VI im Jahr 1970 führen das Orchester des Italienischen Rundfunks und der Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks unter Leitung von Wolfgang Sawallisch in der Peterskirche in Rom Beethovens "Missa solemnis" auf" (this report states that, on the occasion of the celebration of Pope Paul VI'th 50th pontificate, the Italian Radio Orchestra and the Choir of the Bayerische Rundfunk, under the direction of Wolfgang Sawallisch, performed Beethoven's Missa solemnis in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome).

The Bayerische Rundfunk was also kind enough to provide the following, further details with respect to performances of this work by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra: 

"24. Dezember 1966 

Beginn der UKW-Stereofonie im Bayerischen Rundfunk mit der Übertragung der "Missa solemnis" von Ludwig van Beethoven in der Interpretation des Rundfunkchors und Symphonieorchesters des BR unter Leitung von Rafael Kubelik." [Here, reference is made to a performance of the Missa solemnis on December 24, 1966, on the occasion of the introduction of ultra-short-wave stereophony by the Bayerische Rundfunk. On this occasion, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir performed the Mass under the direction of Raphael Kubelik, an it was broadcast on that day.]

"6. - 7. Otkober 1983

Der international hochgeschätzte Chefdirigent Sir Colin Davis leitet in der Nachfolge von Rafael Kubelik das Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.  Den Auftakt der ersten von ihm verantworteten Saison bildet Beethovens "Missa Solemnis." [Here, reference is made to the changeover of the direction of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra from Raphael Kubelik to Sir Colin Davis and that Sir Colin Davis opened his first season with the performance of the Missa solemnis on October 6 and 7, 1983.]

[Here, reference is made to Sir Colin Davis' farewell concert at the 'Philharmonie am Gasteig' and that, on this occasion, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir performed the Missa solemnis under his direction, on May 9, 1992.]

Jubiläumskonzert zum 50-jährigen Bestehen des Symphonieorchesters des Bayerischen Rundfunks unter der Leitung seines früheren Chefdirigenten Sir Colin Davis.  Zur Aufführung kommt "Missa Solemnis" von Ludwig van Beethoven." [Here, reference is made to the Concert on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of its former music director, Sir Colin Davis.  On this occasion, the Missa solemnis was performed on Oct. 14 - 16, 1999.]
